What Is Paint Correction
Paint correction is the controlled removal of surface defects from your vehicle's clear coat using machine polishing. It is not a quick buff or a polish wax. It is a measured process where each panel is inspected under LED lighting, assessed for defect depth, and corrected using the appropriate combination of pads, compounds, and technique. The goal is to level the clear coat so that light reflects evenly across the surface. When defects are removed, the paint produces consistent depth, clarity, and gloss. This is the difference between a vehicle that looks clean and a vehicle that looks correct. At Executive Details, paint correction is performed in a controlled, dust-managed bay with dedicated LED inspection lighting. We use Rupes BigFoot polishing systems and work through each panel methodically, checking results at every stage.
Why Paint Correction Matters
Before Protection
PPF and ceramic coatings lock in whatever is on the surface at the time of application. If your paint has swirl marks, light scratches, or haze, those defects will be sealed underneath the protection. That is why we require a minimum Level 3 paint correction before any PPF or coating installation. The surface must be right before it is preserved.
For Appearance
Most vehicles, including brand new ones, arrive with some level of paint defect. Factory handling, transport, dealer preparation, and everyday washing all leavemarks in the clear coat. Correction restores the surface to a standard the vehicle has likely never been presented at before.
For Resale Value
Acorrected and protected vehicle presents measurably better than one that has been washed and waxed. Buyers and appraisers see the difference immediately. Correction is not a cosmetic luxury. It is maintenance of an asset.
Our Five Levels of Paint Correction
Each level builds on the one before it. The right level depends on the currentcondition of your paint, the outcome you want, and whether you are preparingfor protection.
Level 1: Decontamination Detail
Time: 3 to 4 hours
From: R2,500
Removes bonded contamination from the paint surface without polishing. Iron fallout tar, scale, and industrial deposits are chemically and mechanically removed. The paint is left smooth and clean, but no correction is performed.
This is the right starting point for vehicles in good condition that need a surface reset, or as a first step before further work. It is also the baseline maintenance service for PPF and matte finishes.
Includes: Full decontamination wash, iron and tar removal, clay treatment, ceramic sealant, light interior and engine bay clean.
Level 2: Enhancement Detail
Time: 1 to 2 hours
From: R6,500
A single-stage polish that lifts clarity and gloss across the entire vehicle. Light swirl marks and surface haze are reduced. The improvement is visible and immediate, but deeper defects remain.
This suits daily-driven vehicles and owners who want a noticeable improvement without the time and cost of a full multi-stage correction.
Includes: Everything in Level 1 plus one-step paintcorrection, light interior clean, engine bay clean.
Level 3: Paint Correction Detail
Time: 2 to 3 days
From: R13,500
Multip-step correction targeting visible swirl marks, light scratches, and clear coat inconsistencies. The result is more uniform, deeper finish with improved reflection and colour depth. This is the minimum preparation standard we require before ceramic coating or PPF installation. Protection locks in whatever is on the surface, so the surface needs to be right.
Includes: Everything in Levels 1 and 2 plus extended paint correction, deep interior clean, engine bay clean.
Level 4: Signature EXD Detail
Time: 3 to 4 days
From: R20,000
Comprehensive correction addressing moderate to heavy defects. Multi-stage polishing with increasing refinement produces a finish that looks significantly better than how the vehicle arrived. The interior and engine bay receive more thorough attention at this level.
This is for high-value vehicles and owners who want a dramatic transformation. The vehicle will present at a standard most people have never seen their car reach.
Includes: Everything in Levels 1 to 3 plus multi-stage paint correction, medium interior detail, deep engine bay clean.
Level 5: Concours Detail
Time: 5 to 7 days
From: R35,000
The highest level of paint correction available at EXD. Advanced multi-stage techniques including wet sanding where required to level the clear coat completely. The finish achieves show-level depth and clarity. A Gyeon ceramic coating is applied as part of this service to preserve the corrected surface.
This is for collectors, concours preparation, vehicles being prepared for photography or display, and owners who want the absolute best possible result.
Includes: Everything in Levels 1 to 4 plus advanced multi-stage correction, deep interior detail, engine bay restoration, Gyeonceramic coating.
WHICH LEVEL DO I NEED
The right level depends on what your paint looks like right now and what you want to achieve. We assess every vehicle under LED inspection lighting before recommending a correction level. This inspection is part of our intake process for every job. If your vehicle is in good condition and you want to maintain it, Level 1 or 2 is likely sufficient. If you are preparing for PPF or ceramic coating, Level 3 is the minimum. If you want to see a significant visual improvement, Level 4 or 5 will deliver that. The only way to know for certain is to see the paint under proper lighting. Book an inspection and we will give you an honest recommendation.
Aftercare
A corrected surface should be protected. Without protection, new defects will accumulate through normal washing and use. We recommend either XPEL PPF for physical protection or ceramic coating for chemical and UV protection, applied immediately after correction while the surface is at its best. If you choose not to apply protection, we recommend safe wash practices and regular maintenance washes at EXD to slow the rate of new defect accumulation.
